SeaPro powers Caves Beach to 8th straight Inflatable Rescue Boat crown

The Caves Beach Surf Lifesaving Club has done it again, winning an eighth straight NSW Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) title at Woolgoolga near Coffs Harbour on the NSW North Coast.

Powering through the 3-foot surf break with its Mercury 25hp SeaPro outboard, Caves Beach beat the odds to claim victory once again, proving too much for favourites Thirroul, which had to settle for third behind long time rival Kiama Downs.

“We’ve been plagued by injury all season and labelled as underdogs going in to the final event,” said Team Captain and Coach, Scott Bryant.

“We proved that champion teams with nothing to lose should never be underestimated and finished up with the highest aggregate point score ever accrued in the event’s 30 year history. It was a sweet victory.”

Overall, the Caves Beach team had an amazing weekend, collecting four Gold, six Silver and three Bronze medals from the 16 event program. And that’s not all. Caves Beach also took home a silver medal at last month’s National IRB Championship in Penguin, Tasmania.

The Caves Beach team has been using Mercury SeaPro exclusively since 2002.

“The SeaPro is a good, strong engine and exceptionally responsive,” Scott said.

“When the difference between first and last place can be as little as two seconds, immediate performance is key and Mercury delivers every time,” Scott said.

Scott said many clubs are turning over their engines regularly in search of winning performance while Caves Beach has had some of its Mercury engines for up to five seasons that continue to perform at peak level.

“What’s more, these are the engines we use for beach patrols and rescues as well, and that is when reliability and toughness can be lifesaving – literally.”
