The event will take place on the last weekend of Sydney Harbour Week.
The Superboat Grand Prix will be the highlight in an array of activities celebrating Sydney Harbour Week in March 2008.
The event will see polling on Saturday March 8 and race day on Sunday March 9.
The Government is working closely with event organisers to ensure the grand prix is safe, sustainable and provides minimal disruption to Sydney-siders.
As with the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race spectator craft will be kept to a safe distance from the race, while still having plenty of vantage points from where to view the event.
The Superboat Grand Prix will see Sydney Harbour closed to all major shipping movements for two-hours each day, primarily for safety reasons.
NSW Maritime will position 150 buoys to mark the course and distinguish exclusion zones for the many recreational boaters expected to turn out to watch the excitement. At least 30 patrol vessels will be on course to enforce the exclusion zones.
Entries for the inaugural 2008 event have come from the Australian Offshore Racing Championship however in 2009 the event will form part of the World Class One Powerboat Championship where entries will come from all over the world.
With a racecourse from Fort Dennison to Shark Island and return it promises to be one of the amazing events ever to be seen on Sydney Harbour.
