Solo around the World non stop voyage begins for Tom Cichoki

AROUND THE WORLD SOLO NON STOP VOYAGE.

Delphia Yachts is proud to announce the departure, on 1/7/2011, from Brest, France, of  a Delphia 40.3 on a nonstop single handed voyage around the world. 

The route is south, in the Atlantic, rounding the Cape of Good hope, then eastwards across the Indian and Southern oceans, passing under Australia and New Zealand, across the Pacific, rounding Cape Horn, then northwards up the Atlantic to finish at the departure point of Brest, France.

The voyage has been reported to the World Sailing Speed Record Council, a division of the International Sailing Federation, in a class of single hull yachts sailing alone and non stop around the world, and a sealed “black box” has been placed aboard the yacht to record the voyage.

Delphia 40’s are an “A” class yacht, offshore or bluewater rated, and are an ideal boat to attempt this challenge.  This is not the first Delphia 40 to have crossed oceans, with several Australian buyers electing to have taken delivery of their new yachts ex-factory and sail them home.

The Delphia 40.3 is skippered by Tom Cichoki, a 54 year old very experienced sailor who accepted this gruelling challenge, and takes with him almost 3 tonnes of supplies and equipment, including 1500 litres of water, 380 litres fuel, food for the 40,000 mile voyage which is expected to take approximately 300 days.

Delphia yachts are imported into Australia by Geoff Pearson, at Sydney Yachting Centre, Mosman, and marketed in Queensland by Ben Johannesson in association with Allan McDermott.
