The opportunity to go boating and enjoy the lifestyle associated with champagne at sunsets on board a luxury cruiser, has just become easier with the launch of the Pelorus 44.
Presented as a ‘gentleman’s cruiser with a young man’s heart, the Pelorus 44 brings an entirely new dimension to the enjoyment of luxury boating. This is a genuine big boat, one which has the credentials to travel long distances over open seas, yet is the epitome of luxury.
In basic terms the Pelorus 44 is a clipper or trawler style boat that achieves a top speed of 22 knots, (40 km/h). This is a solid, sea kindly fibreglass hull that measures 13.384 M long (44’) with a beefy beam of 4.35 M (14’3”). The hull displaces 13,000 kgs and is fitted with dual shaft drive 370 hp diesel engines, either Volvo or Yanmar which deliver ample power for sprightly performance.
While comparable boats in this market segment attract a million dollar plus price ticket, the Pelorus 44 sells for under $700,000. And remember, this is a fully optioned boat that boasts a standard inventory list as long as the boat itself. There are precious few options that are needed with this rig.
“What sets the Pelorus 44 apart is the long inventory of standard equipment,” said Andrew Murray of Pelorus Marine.
“We set about putting a comprehensively decked out boat on the water at an attractive price. On all counts we believe this boat is a stunning success, and this has been reinforced by the strong acceptance of the Australian market.”
“Australian boaters are getting a heck of a lot of boat for their investment.”
Like many luxury flybridge boats marketed in this segment, the Pelorus 44 is imported from Asia. This is one the new generation of high quality boats built in China, manufactured by a highly regarded boat yard.
The Pelorus 44 is a stately cruiser with an expansive and open cabin design. Access to the saloon is via broad sliding stainless steel and glass doors; when open the inside and outside morph into one. If alfresco living at sea is at all possible, then the Pelorus 44 is the boat that achieves it.
With cherry wood furniture and bulkheads, the initial impression upon entry to the saloon is impressive. The saloon is open and spacious with a generous dinette and sumptuous plush seating.
Here is a saloon which includes as standard a 37” LG LCD TV complete with autolift so as to tuck away into the cabinetry when not in use. The saloon is serviced with a big capacity, 24,000 BTU air con system.
The galley is set to the port for’ard end of the saloon. Here even the keenest chef will be delighted with the fit out. There is a three burner electric stove, 1000W microwave oven, generous sized refrigerator and enough bench space for cooking, serving and washing up…. all at once.
To starboard is the lower helm station. This flybridge style hull has both upper and lower helm stations. In the main saloon the skipper has a comprehensively equipped console that lacks nothing in technology.
Moving for’ard in the Pelorus 44, the set down companionway leads to dual staterooms and a self contained, private bathroom. The master stateroom has a full size island bed, together with excellent storage. The second stateroom also sleeps two, this time in twin single beds with a walkway between. Both bedrooms are fully air-conditioned.
Those who designed the Pelorus 44 appreciate the importance of a generous bathroom. This area has a full sized, self contained shower suite behind the hinged glass door. The head and vanity are outside of the shower in their own area making this one of the biggest bathrooms in a boat of this size.
Boats like the Pelorus 44 are designed to make the most of outdoors living, whether moored or under way. The upper helm station is very generous and will ensure that the skipper can enjoy the company of family and friends while under way. There is fixed seating for upstairs for guests plus an expansive upper deck area to be utilised as you wish.
There is also a very stylish stair-set that links the lower cockpit with the flybridge. The gently curved stainless steel structure with timber treads is further illustration of the quality on board the Pelorus 44.
