Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has awarded Seatamer Marine the tender for the build of two patrol boats to be used in the Sydney region.
Maritime Acting General Manager Maritime Operations Trevor Williams said two 7.5 metre patrol boats would be built by the Lake Macquarie-based boat builder for a combined cost of $473,500.
“Both will be replacement patrol boats to be used by Boating Safety Officers – one for Sydney Harbour and one for Port Hacking,” Mr Williams said.
Mr Williams said the light-weight aluminium vessels would both include preferred design elements from other patrol boats operating in the area.
“This includes touch screens, bigger windows and a windscreen which rakes back for better visibility as well as a simplified cabin layout for easier movement when underway,” Mr Williams said.
Among its fleet, RMS already has three Seatamer boats on Sydney Harbour as well as a navigation surveying vessel which is used on the NSW coast.
The patrol boats are due for completion ahead of the new boating season which starts in October.
