The new Buizen 52 yacht takes luxury cruising to a new level

An exciting new model is just being released by this famous Australian yacht builder which needs little introduction to discerning yachtsmen and women.

Buizen has just announced the creation of a stunning new 52 foot model. This completes the respected family company’s plans to build a trilogy of world class, ocean-going cruising yachts comprising the ever popular and iconic 48, the all new 52 and the previously announced 60.

While the new 52 continues the Buizen heritage in every respect, its designers took the pedigree even further. “Clean, modern, innovative, European and performance” were key parameters in the design brief that steered Anthony Starr Design, Peter Lowe naval architects and the Buizen team throughout the design process.

The 52’s midship beam is almost 300mm wider than the 48. Yet it’s the wider beam sweeping aft and the increase in the topsides (hull) height of 250mm which deliver huge dividends. When combined with the extra length, the Buizen 52 has incredible internal volume resulting in more spacious living accommodation.

In keeping with the popular Buizen 48’s layout which has a forward owner’s stateroom with ensuite, the larger aft sleeping cabins also have ensuites. The saloon is wider and longer and the galley now spreads right across midships for increased functionality. Other innovative features include the opening rear saloon windows that can connect the saloon to the cockpit when opened. On deck, the cockpit boasts twin helm wheels with large level entertaining areas and an uninterrupted walk through to the transom where a transom garage for dinghy storage is hydraulically operated  to create a teak deck swim platform when down.

The increased sail plan of 74.2 m² sees the in-boom furling main as the dominant driving sail and the headsail playing a more balancing role. Halyards and sheets will run below decks back to winches in the cockpit, ensuring clean and uncluttered deck space. All Buizens are designed to be sailed single handedly, so naturally all winches are hydraulically operated as is the boom vang and all controlled at the cockpit helming consoles.

As evidence that the company can build a craft that lives up to the promise of the 52, one needs only to retrace the journey that has taken Buizen to where it is today. Established nearly 30 years ago, Buizen first made its mark with the success of its Zeston 36 and 40 cruising yachts in the eighties, craft which are still very popular today. Then Buizen introduced its spectacularly successful Buizen 40 and 48 Pilot House yachts in the nineties, with the latest refinement of the 48 The Series 3 being awarded Australian Boat of The Year (Sail) in 2008.

The company doesn’t rely on frequent incremental model changes to drive sales, nor is their philosophy mass production or price focused. Built in limited numbers and commenced strictly to order, uncompromised quality, refinement, value and evolutionary improvement have been the hallmarks of these blue water cruising yachts. Buizen hand build and semi customise their craft for their loyal customers to sail the world, with four Australian owners having cruised the Med in their 48s in 2009.

Buizen yachts are built for owners who want the ultimate platform on which to cruise around Australia or the world. Their unique deck house saloon vision, handcrafted joinery, precision engineering, build quality and single handed sailing operation lead many to consider Buizens the ultimate cruising yacht. Such attributes have tempted even many power boat owners to cross over, attracted by the unlimited cruising adventure achievable in a Buizen which they were previously constrained from experiencing in their power boats.

With more space, more luxuries and the very latest technologies, the all new 52 looks set to continue the highly successful Buizen tradition. With legendary Buizen build-quality, the 52 will be a special yacht indeed; one that will be worthy to stand beside the iconic and legendary 48 Series.
