Stewart Smith, David Wright and Marc Hall have recently joined forces to form United Motor Yachts operating at the Hope Island Marina. Each of them has had a long history in various aspects of the marine industry.
Stewart has vast experience in the servicing of boats and marine engines as he owned and operated Sea Tech marine at Sanctuary Cove for many years. Following Sea Tech Stewart became involved with Black Watch Boats as director and the production manager. He then started Deep V Marine which built the smaller Black Watch models as Deep V boats for around 10 Years. Following the relocation of the Deep V manufacture offshore Stewart joined Marc Hall at Hope Island Boat Brokers selling all types of New and used marine craft. Following changes at the Hope Island Marine which saw a change to freehold for the Marina berths Marc and Stewart re located to Gold Coast City Marina. Stewart then contracted to Leigh Smith Cruiser Sales and spent some time overseeing the production of Alaska and Hampton vessels until he left to form United Motor Yachts.
David started his marine industry career when his parents purchased the well-known Tipplers Resort. David gained his skippers ticket and ran the barge and other marine craft associated with the operation. He then worked with Tickles Marine and following that worked at the Sanctuary Cove Marina in its early days when the resort was opened. David took up a position with Riviera for about 3 and half years in procurement. Following Riviera David is well known in the industry through spending around 12 years with Southern Stainless working in the marine product development and sales division. David also worked for a short period with Leigh Smith Cruiser Sales, selling all types of new and used vessels, leaving to establish United Motor Yachts.
Originally founding, Owning and operating Marc Hall Marine in the mid-70s on the Gippsland Lakes in Victoria Marc had a fleet of nearly 30 Yachts and cruisers for hire. After selling that successful operation Marc worked as a manager for Jackson Brothers and then moved to Lake Macquarie where he opened his own Brokerage at Marks Point Marina. Marc sold his Brokerage and then became a partner in Black Watch Sales selling and distributing Black Watch Boats throughout Australia and New Zealand. Marc sold out of Black Watch Sales and opened his own Brokerage at the Hope Island Resort Marina. Marc and Stewart moved over to Gold Coast City Marina and Marc contracted to Leigh Smith Cruiser Sales selling New and used vessels. Marc contracted to Marine Auctions for around 9 months and then with Stewart and David opened United Motor Yachts at Hope Island Marina in April 2012.
Stewart David and Marc have formed United Motor Yachts to be the Australian distribution office for their range of Fairway Motor Cruisers. They have recently purchased the tooling for the well-known Fairway 36 and plan to add some new models to the range which will include a new vessel around 30/32 feet and two larger vessels one around 46 feet based on the Fairway 36 and an all-new 56 which will also be a semi displacement vessel but skewed more towards the Motor Yacht style.
