Yachting New South Wales announce the launch of their Youth Sailing Team

Looking for a chance to represent your state and even Australia at national and international regattas?

Replacing the Yachting NSW Emerging Talent Squad, the Yachting NSW Youth Sailing Team is a partnership initiative of the NSW Institute of Sport and is an underpinning program to the NSWIS scholarship program.

Applications are open now for youth sailors in the Optimist, Sabot, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial, 29’er, 420, Flying 11 and BIC Techno classes to join the team.

The goal of the YNSW Youth Sailing Team is provide the members with high quality coaching by NSWIS coaching staff and select support coaches to give them the best skills to represent NSW at interstate regattas. These skills will also help them to potentially achieve selection into the Australian Youth Sailing Team, and to represent Australia at the Youth World Championships.

NSW Institute of Sport coaches will be on the water at Sail Sydney in December, and also at class state and national regattas to see
applicants racing.

With access to the High Performance Pathway structure, the on-water coaching is also supported by sessions on strength and conditioning and sports psychology.

“The aim is to identify our sailing talent from an early age. We need to build on their natural ability and develop all aspects of their
skills in a structured way.” said Larry Cargill, the High Performance Sailing Coach from the NSW Institute of Sport.

Applications for the Yachting NSW Youth Sailing Team open on Thursday 1st December.
