Yanmar Unveils New Generation BY2 Series Diesels
When the electronically controlled, common rail BY Series of light weight diesels was introduced two years ago into the pleasurecraft market, the four totally new engines in the range were hailed as establishing new standards for the industry, widening significantly the propulsion package choice for boat builders and their boating customer.
Research, development and a commitment for perfection underscore the design and manufacturing policies at Yanmar – and now the leading-edge Yanmar BY engines have been further enhanced with a second generation, the BY2 Series.
The new BY2 Series continues at the same output of four-cylinder 150mhp (110kW) and 180mhp (132kw), plus six-cylinder 220mhp (162kW) and 260mhp (191kW), rated at 4,000rpm. As before, they meet the latest EPA and RCD emissions regulations.
Many improvements have been incorporated into the new Yanmar BY2 Series. These include a fully jacketed water-cooled exhaust manifold with modifications to the turbocharger and the heat exchanger. There is now a full metal top cover, which provides improved protection to the fuel system components below and results in the profile being lowered by 23mm.
The engine control unit (ECU) has been reprogrammed from torque to speed control, providing smoother operation and better synchronization on twin-engine applications.
And to provide easier installation and servicing of the engines, the fuel inlet and return connections on the engine are now incorporated into a single manifold which is mounted on the lower side of the engine.
The YANMAR engineering team has taken onboard feedback received from distributors, customers and OEM partners around the world. As a result the BY’s have been refined to facilitate both the installation time for the installer and overall performance for the vessel owner.
“The new Yanmar BY2 series represents a new level of sophistication for the popular BY series which was launched on the world scene in 2006 and one that has been very well received by owners of Yanmar BY series powered pleasure craft in Australia,” commented Power Equipment National Marine Sales Manager Michael Blair.
Power Equipment already has a large number of the new generation Yanmar BY2 units in stock across Australia to suit conventional shaft drive and sterndrive equipped models.
For those petrol powered boat owners who have been feeling the recent high cost of ULP there probably is not a better time to repower with the latest marine diesel electronic controlled common rail diesel technology from YANMAR.
Power Equipment is the exclusive and authorised Australian, PNG and South Pacific distributor of Yanmar Marine and Industrial diesel engines importing product from Yanmar plants in Japan, Asia, USA and Europe. With an extensive marine dealer and branch network, Power Equipment has the expertise and experience to assist boat owners and boat builders for both new installations and repowers.
